…would equal snow. Sun angle is losing its annual battle to to the revolution and tilt of the earth. Days are growing shorter, insolation is on the wane. It’s been raining and drizzling on and off today. If it were just a bit colder, we would be seeing our first flakes of the season. It wouldn’t have amounted to much, granted. However once the first flakes start to fly, winter is declaring it is here. Winter: You can come anytime now, thanks!

The back of my sweater has been bound off. Now for the two front pieces. It could get complicated as the pattern has neckline, waistline, and armhole shaping all going on at once. I keep reading the pattern trying to sort it out without much success. It will probably end up being one of those “just do it and stop over-analyzing so much” kind of things.

The semester is going well so far. Next weekend is a big weekend: Karyn and Andy’s wedding! We’re flying out to Colorado on Thursday for all the festivities. I will be finishing off the flower girl dresses in the next couple days. I’m really hoping they come out good.

Chirp, chirp, chirp.

Oh hello.  It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at the ranch.  Despite a fabulous beginning of my tour, life happened and so I haven’t finished much since the last time I posted.  Hopefully I’ll get to do some more spinning in the next few weeks.  August is just around the corner and that means time to start revising syllabi and prepping for the semester.  I have been doing some knitting including my first colorwork project.  It’s fun seeing the pattern take shape and just a wee bit addicting.

Hopefully I’ll be back posting more in the near future including some pics of my recent projects.  I’m also going to try and post a little more about what’s going on weather wise.  In fact, there are some hints in the models that a tropical-esque system may try and work its way near the east coast by the end of the weekend or early next week.   It’s nothing to really write home about now, but it does bear watching in the near future.

Sleeping Beauty March 23, 2009

A quote from my friend’s almost 3 year old daughter about my newest obsession:  “Hollis has a spinning wheel.  She needs to be very careful.”  When asked why: “Because she might prick her finger and die”.  Upon the retelling of this story I laughed hysterically.  Who knew I could be the next Sleeping Beauty?  I will of course be extremely careful while embracing my newest obsession.

An update on the health front now.  Two weeks to go in the wrist brace and hopefully (hopefully!) I’ll be as good as new.  I can do pretty much everything now except for picking up Greyson in certain ways.  The wrist tends to be achy at the end of the day but overall, I’m pleased with my progress.

In other news, I am going to transform my self from a slug to a 5K runner over the next 9 weeks.  My friend Mrs. Knitpho has successfully completed several 5 K’s over the past year or so and I’ve been inspired to get my butt off the couch and do something good for myself.  I’m going to try this running regimen: Couch to 5K.  I’ve got new shoes and a good attitude and I’m ready to start this week!  Perhaps this may even help me lose the last of the stubborn baby weight.  A girl can dream right?

Finally, spring has sprung here in northern Massachusetts.  Well, kind of.  I have blooming crocuses and the tulips are working their way towards bloom right now.   Unfortunately today there is a decidedly wintry feel to the air.  But winter’s hold cannot last.  The inexorable tilt of the earth will soon lead to higher sun angles and warmer temperatures.  Science factoid of the day:  If your latitude is greater than 23.5 N or S the sun will never be directly overhead in the sky.

On tap for this week: back to work, preparation for Rich’s China trip, and hopefully some spinning and knitting time.
